Softball in Austin and Baseball in Dallas

My chasing after my youth cost me 4 stitches this time

Some of you know that I like to play softball. I’ve been playing for a number of years with the same bunch of guys and we have a great time playing. We started out as a group of (mostly) single men swapping stories about women we dated. Now that we’re older, we sit around and swap stories about our wives and kids (I swear we do, Honey).

Last Sunday night I decided I would slide into the catcher because he was blocking the plate as I tried to score. This is perfectly legal. While being called “safe,” I somehow realized I got a bruise on my shin. Later, I realized it was a puncture wound that required 4 stitches! Oh, and Susan will require me to tell you that I didn’t go to the doctor until the day after because I was being a boy about it. I admit it…I didn’t want to go.

If you want to see the “before” picture of the wound, CLICK HERE! WARNING: It’s gross! It’s really nasty. You should only look if you have a strong stomach.

Lesson learned: Go to the doctor when it doesn’t stop bleeding and it’s deep.

Beautiful Ameriquest Field in Arlington

I went to Dallas for a class this week. For the first time in over a year, I went on the road again. It wasn’t that much fun, but I made the best of it. I got some sleep; I saw our good friends Ted and Cecilia; and I went to a Ranger game.

Ted and Cecilia are pregnant with child number 3 and they’re both looking good in spite of being 30 weeks along. We all went out to eat at a great steakhouse and then we went back to their place. Ted and I watched a 1957 movie called Zero Hour. If you’ve ever seen the movie Airplane!, then you’ll love this older movie. Apparently the Airplane writers based their cliche dialogue and story around Zero Hour. It was hilarious!

The Ranger game was a blast! If you ever get a chance to go to Ameriquest Field (where the Rangers play), you should do it. The ballpark is very nice.

This weekend, Jen and Richard will be doing the MS 150 with their bikes. On Sunday, they should be pulling into Austin like they did last year. Hopefully, the family and I will be able to make it out!
