Mike Can Sew

August 21st, 2005 by Mike · 1 Comment

Why must you mock me so?

Would you believe that I didn’t know how to sew a button until this weekend?

I have these great cargo shorts that are my favorite. And when I say “shorts” I mean several pair. I have 5 or 6 pairs of shorts and 3 are without a button in a necessary location. They’ve been missing for several months.

Susan has always (generously) volunteered to sew my buttons back on, but she wasn’t around much this weekend. I decided at 38 years old, I needed to learn. After all…I’m a web geek, right? I should be able to figure out where to find the info.

Well, I found it on the first try.

eHow is a website with tutorials on common, everyday tasks that help out the clueless (like me). You can get lessons in how to find a good mechanic, making a brisket and (yes) how to sew a button.

In other news, we’ve had a busy weekend.

Susan and Emma went to a birthday party this weekend while Kayla, Erik and I visited every Target and Lowe’s in the area trying to find bargains.

I built a dandy workbench in the garage. Kayla and I put together a great “audio pier” to go upstairs for our emerging home theatre. I spent hours (no kidding) trying to get the wiring correct. It might have been shorter, but I was getting a lot of assistance from my son who fancies himself a “wire man”. Even though he’s surrounded by toys that should keep a little toddler entertained for hours, he was interested in speaker wire, s-video cables and RCA cables.

Well…what can I say? That’s my boy!

Kayla and I spent today playing a great snowboard game called SSX 3. Snowboarding on a big screen TV is just plain awesome. We both want to go to Colorado this winter and do snowboarding for real. I’m sure we’ll be able to do the same spectacular stunts
without serious injury.
