Fun in the sun…and water…ready for Summer!!!
Overview
So much going on and so little time to report. In the span of several days, we’ve done quite a bit of living…and I took a few pictures.
Mom Retires
After a few decades of teaching, my mom finally decided to call it a career. She worked her last day as a dedicated educator of tomorrow’s leaders last Friday. You would think she might be sentimental and sad about leaving…not so much. I think you could characterize her mood as jubilant.
With both parents safely in retirement, we’re expecting spontaneous and frequent trips to exotic (and not so exotic) destinations. I’m glad they made it.
Memorial Day Party
We got a special performance from the family ballet dancers
I didn’t take too many pictures, but we had a get together with some families from our Scholz’s experiences. After Susan and I sent out the invites, we had a moment of panic when we realized we could have as many as 30 in our house (when you count kids). Our house is bigger than the Pflugerville house, but we still thought it might get tight. Luckily, we were fine.
I cooked up Alton Brown Gut Grenades (little hamburgers) and I tried my hand at Alton’s kabobs. Both were pretty well received. Kayla’s convinced we’ll have to do the kabobs again very soon.
Emma’s Graduation
I told her she could get a job now, but she didn’t seem to pay attention
Emma completed one of the last steps before kindergarten on Tuesday; she graduated from pre-school! Emma had a full blown graduation ceremony with hats, diplomas and music. They even went down to the Texas Union for pizza and bowling. Her teachers told us she’s definitely ready to go to Grade K in August. I know we’re ready for her to have the next challenge.

Jazz Vatos at Central Market
Los Jazz Vatos in action
One of our friends plays in a jazz band called “Los Jazz Vatos“. Austin folks might know them as they’ve played off and on for years. You’re missing out if you haven’t heard them (you can go buy a CD here). On Friday, we all went to HEB Central Market (and the gigantic playscape) to hear the Vatos play. The night was a little humid, but the friends, food and music made for a great experience.

Erik has a Central Market balloon
We’ve found that Erik is moved by music. I don’t remember Emma dancing as much as Erik does now. At Scholz’s, he dances to Polka music (somewhere his German ancestors are smiling). At Central Market on Friday, it was Latin Jazz. He charmed the socks of an older couple who really appreciated the show he put on.

Whew! This was a long post. I’ll try to do shorter posts this week.
