Tooth Fairy and Jack Frost Visit our House

Gap tooth grin from Emma

I suppose it was inevitable that our children lose their baby teeth…it just happens so fast.

Emma messed with a loose tooth for about a week and it finally popped out last night. Emma was overjoyed. Apparently many of her friends at school lost teeth and she really wanted to show off a gap in her grin.

Even better than that, she got a visit from the Tooth Fairy last night.

I remember the first tooth Kayla lost. She was about the same age and we were eating at a place in Austin. An upper tooth had been loose for days and she was reluctant to have anyone look at it. Finally she came over to me at the table and let me get a grip on it. I didn’t move a bit, but I mentioned something to her that made her flinch. I can’t remember what it was exactly…maybe something about pliers. My hand (and the tooth) stayed in one place as her head jerked backwards. I really didn’t plan it that way, but it was good for a laugh. Kayla was overjoyed it was out.
We’ve been hit with a little winter weather here in central Texas. Last night brought freezing rain and a little sleet and that means no one goes to school or work today. Round Rock made their announcement by 6pm last night, the University waited a little later in the evening.

Central Texans do not know how to drive in icy weather. This amount of ice wouldn’t really represent much of a challenge to communities that get a little every winter, but we’re fairly clueless. Several years ago, there were about 500 accidents in one morning due to drivers going to fast and slamming on brakes. No thanks.

When I went to the driveway to get the paper this morning, it was covered in ice. With more of this on the way, I think we’re all staying put today.
