In the hazy crazy days of high school, I succeeded in blowing out my hearing at a series of rock concerts. I saw several shows, but there were only a few that really stand out as quality performances by good bands. I saw Stevie Ray Vaughan at Auditorium shores one spring, I saw U2 in concert my senior year, and I saw the Police at South Park Meadows.
The Police Synchronicity Tour in 1983 was the band’s last time together before suffering a pretty bad breakup. Sting went on to do his slow decent into jazz while Stewart Copeland (the drummer) and Andy Summers (the guitarist) went on to do individual projects. I was really bummed I would never see them together again.
Imagine my surprise when I heard that the Police are getting together for a reunion tour this year. According to Billboard’s website, they intend on rehearsing soon.
I’ve got to admit I’m pretty excited. Even though I know this might be a very transparent attempt to make tons of money (they could call the tour “Money Grab 2007″) and they aren’t getting any younger, I will probably line up to see them.
It’s rare you can relive little bits of your youth.
Don’t worry, mom…I’ll wear earplugs. ![]()
Oh…and it’s also reported the relevant members of Van Halen are getting back together too. Maybe I’ll see some of my high school buddies this year after all.
