When I last left you, I was reveling in the steak dinner I had just won from my dear friend in Ft. Worth (thanks Colts).
I haven’t had the opportunity the inclination to write in a while and i thought it would be best to give a Guentzel Family Update:
- Kayla competed in Solo and Ensemble and received their highest rating: a I (not an “I” but a one). What is truly amazing about this is she managed to do it with a woodwind instrument and not a brass instrument.
- Emma has set a new family record for earliest visit to the principal’s office. It appears there was a disagreement in class that ended in an unfortunate display of violence involving pencils (the pointy part). Needless to say, she did not pass go, she did not collect $200 and I had to recite my not-quite-prepared “Violence is Never the Answer” speech. I was preparing it for Erik when he got older, but I suppose it will keep. By the way, the former record holder was Yours Truly.
- Erik had the good fortune to learn about dead rodents. Just the other day he found a dead rat at day care and brought it to his teachers. They were certainly excited about it. Susan and I were also excited to have our son exposed to such a learning experience. We passed along our excitement to management.
- Susan is a quilting machine. Not only did she finish up her denim quilt (that is getting lots of good use these days), she’s also started 2 others. I won’t steal her thunder (or rob myself of another post) and keep the designs under wraps for now.
- I got a new car stereo for my truck. Of course, I can’t have just any car stereo; I need the uber-geek car stereo. Not only will this play regular CDs and AM/FM radio, it will also play CDs I burned from my computer with MP3s, WMAs and AACs. That’s not enough? OK, it also has an auxiliary jack to handle output from other devices. Still not impressed? How about a cable that comes out of the back that plays and charges my iPod. The cherry on top: it has a USB jack up front so I can put a music “mix” on a thumb drive and rock the hour-long commute away.
There are other things (I’ve been sick for a month, Kayla slammed my finger in the car door, baby Cora is getting bigger), but I thought I’d cover the highlights.
I hope you’ll hear more from me soon.
