Fifteen years and one day ago, I accompanied Kayla’s mother to her regularly scheduled doctor visit to check on the baby that was supposed to come in late August. Imagine our surprise when the doctor said the baby had to come out as soon as possible. I’m a procrastinator by nature (no, you say) and I wasn’t planning for the little bundle of joy to get here. Logistically, I had some work to do.
Luckily, the baby made it without a hitch. Looking down at our newborn child I contemplated the wide spectrum of variables ahead of us. I didn’t know what kind of daughter she would be and I didn’t know what kind of dad I would be. What would the future hold?
Well fifteen years of that future have been recorded and the little baby girl that slept in that crib is now a tall teenager. She’s got a great head on her shoulders and a healthy outlook on life, the universe and everything. I couldn’t have predicted all the twists and turns in the road that got us here, but Kayla turned out better than I could have ever hoped for.
Happy birthday, kid.
