Want to enrich your word power and feed the hungry at the same time? Then you should visit FreeRice.com. They give 10 grains of rice for every vocabulary question you answer correctly. There are advertisers that pay for the rice (Office Depot, Liz Claiborne, Reader’s Digest, etc) and it seems like a win-win to me.
From their FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions):
FreeRice has a custom database containing thousands of words at varying degrees of difficulty. There are words appropriate for people just learning English and words that will challenge the most scholarly professors. In between are thousands of words for students, business people, homemakers, doctors, truck drivers, retired people⦠everyone!
There are over 29,000 grains of rice in one pound (based on long grain white rice according to ProducersRice.com).
That’s a lot of correct answers. I’m only clocking several hundred grains a night (in between everything else). I need your help.
Apparently it’s on the up and up, so you ought to give it a shot.
