Susan and I head back to work tomorrow after several days off. We recharged batteries, we watched movies and aside from a little illness for me yesterday and today…it was pretty nice.
Normally I would do New Year’s Resolutions (and I still might), but I thought it would be nice to chronicle a few things that we already accomplished over the holiday.
I don’t know what it is about the beginning of the year and the need to organize. Maybe it’s the post-holiday bleary-eyed gaze across the house and all its chaos that makes us move. Wal-Mart and Target have picked up on it. The ads right after Christmas were all about plastic storage tubs and other organization tools.
Here they are:
- We cleaned out the closets - Our closet under the stairs was every bit as cluttered and dangerous as Fibber McGee’s closet and we didn’t take it on lightly. We made some tough choices, but it’s clean. I’m not afraid to open the door now. Susan and I also hit our own personal closets with the same results.
- Susan made fried chicken - I knew she could do it, but we never really had the right tools. Thankfully, I received a gigantic cast iron skillet for Christmas (thanks mom) and Susan went to town. It was wonderful!
- I built my new computer - For a geek, going two years without a significant upgrade to your rig can be torture. I finally assembled a decent gaming machine with upgraded memory and processing speed.
- I expanded my desk - During the summer, I started to build my IKEA dream desk from parts I found at the Round Rock IKEA “As Is” department. I was able to get the main top and legs, but I didn’t get the rest until now. I know it doesn’t sound that exciting, but it is for me. I’ll try to provide before and after pictures soon.
There was more (weeded the garden, oiled the furniture, sorted the DVDs, cleaned the kids’ rooms, etc), but these were some of the high points.
Tomorrow, back to work.
