Yesterday afternoon (after mom’s surprise birthday party), Kayla and I drove down to Austin to participate in Jennifer Ziegler’s Book Release Party. As I mentioned a few days ago, her second book “How NOT to be Popular” has just hit the bookstores. Tonight was her party for the release.

I have to admit, that I didn’t know what to expect with this event. When Jenny’s first book came out (Alpha Dog), I didn’t go to the book release party, but a signing at the Round Rock Barnes and Noble. She wasn’t all that busy and had only a few folks around her. She was approachable and we had a nice conversation.

The gig at BookPeople turned out to be quite a production.

Kayla and I arrived a little after 7pm to a full room on the second floor. Jenny was in mid-speech talking about how she went about writing this particular book. As a part of promoting the book, she was dressed in non-trendy, tacky attire.

After speaking for a bit, she read the 2nd chapter of her book (which was very good) and took a few questions.

After the presentation, people lined up to have their books signed…it was quite a line.

Kayla and I finally made it to the table and Jenny was genuinely glad to see me and to meet Kayla. Jenny enthusiastically signed her book and chatted with us. Kayla was excited and chatty the whole way home. She told me she would likely finish the book within a day.

Unfortunately I won’t get to get a crack at the book until at least Wednesday…I knew I should have bought two copies!
