In addition to being a silly Ronald Reagan movie from the 50s, this phrase (”Bedtime for Bonzo”) is a traditional bedtime announcement for my kids. It started when Kayla was very young and it continues on with Emma and Erik to this day. We try to keep the routine…well…routine. This usually consists of me tucking Erik in while Susan tucks in Emma. Then we each go to the other child.
Emma and I talked history tonight.
- Daddy, what are historical figures.
- Well, people in history. Usually famous people from the past.
- Are all historical figures heroes?
- No, not always.
- Who was Thomas Jefferson?
- He wrote the Declaration of Independence and was our 3rd president.
- Did Thomas Edison invent the light bulb?
- Yes, among other things, he invented the light bulb.
- Did you know that Abraham Lincoln was sitting in a chair next to his wife and a man shot him.
- Yes, the man didn’t like Abraham Lincoln very much.
This went on for a bit. Apparently they teach more than finger painting at her school.
