One of the neat plot vehicles on the original Star Trek series was the idea of an Auxiliary Bridge.  If the original bridge was captured or otherwise determined unlivable, the characters went to the Auxiliary Bridge to control the ship.

Like the crew of the Enterprise, I have been forced to conduct my computer business from my laptop or another computer in my house (usually a Linux box).  Why?  It seems my original motherboard was slowly losing USB ports (translation: dying) and I needed to replace the board with a new board.  I did everything you’re supposed to do.  I backed up my old drive; I carefully installed the new board; I made sure all the connections were in place. 

Of course, the new board is DOA (Dead On Arrival) and now I have no viable computer until these boards get replaced.

Not exactly a geek’s dream.
