Tornado Scare Tonight

May 14th, 2008 by Mike · No Comments

When you live in Texas, you learn to live with tornadoes. Tonight we had a bit of a scare when a strong severe thunderstorm system passed through our area with hail, wind and a bunch of rain.

How concerned were we? Well, we put the kids in the bathroom with blankets and tried to keep them calm. In the meantime, Susan and I were calling our friends and family keeping track of them while we dug the NOAA radio out (and put in fresh batteries).

No damage thus far, but we’re expecting another wave to sweep through in about 15 to 30 minutes. The weathermen all say that this one isn’t as severe and that our area (Leander/Cedar Park/Round Rock) caught the worst of the one before.

Here’s a screen shot of the radar we pulled down from a local channel’s website (the internets kept working):

We’re located just southwest of where you read “Georgetown”.

Waiting for the second one now.

More later.

UPDATE: The second and third “waves” of storms were minor in comparison.  We did get 3 1/2 inches of rain, though.
