Bike Plus Train
My second week in Sydney, I decided to buy a bike. I needed a way to get around that didn’t terribly inconvenience my friends, and I had recently finished the New Belgium Brewing Urban Assault in Austin in the summer. The picture you see is the bike (a Giant Yukon SE)…I haven’t decided what to name it yet.
Today, I decided to go over to Rhodes and visit the mall that has the IKEA (yes, I went to IKEA again…shocker). I rode my bike to Hornsby Station and took it the train. If you travel with a bike outside of rush hour, you can do so free…otherwise you’ll need to buy a child’s ticket for it. Now, that’s pretty handy on a Saturday when you want to go see the city. Where was I? I rode the train from Hornsby to Rhodes, then rode my bike to IKEA.
The funny thing about IKEA is that a lot of the products are the same ones you can get in the States (and other places too I’m guessing), and they’re roughly the same price. Today I bought a shelf that I’ve affixed to my desk. It now holds my monitor and i don’t have to look down to surf the web.
I didn’t buy much besides that…I didn’t have much room in my backpack (I was riding my bike if you’ll remember).
I took the bike to Rhodes Station and rode the train back to Hornsby. My friend met me there and was good enough to stuff the bike in the back of his SUV and gave me a ride home.
I’m going to do this again…but maybe another part of Sydney.
