Video from the UT vs. Rice Game

A friend of mine let me use his season tickets for the Longhorn game this past Saturday.  Another stop on my Texas Farewell Tour.  I’ve started a YouTube channel for videos that I might post in the coming months, so I decided to post a couple from the game.  Here they are:

My Time with ARMA International is up

For the past few years, I’ve been honored to serve on the board of ARMA International as an Outside Director.

ARMA is an association that helps promote the records management and information management practice that covers a wide spectrum of industries and currently has approximately 10,000 members.  I was invited to participate on the board because of some of my background in Project Management and Information Technology, but mostly because I was on the outside looking in.  Several years ago, the organization decided having a fresh set of eyes and ears in the decision making process was a good thing.  After participating in several board meetings and numerous task forces, I wholeheartedly agree.

Unfortunately, with my adventures in Australia upcoming, I’ve decided to vacate my position a little early.  I have formally resigned from the board effective September 1st.  I suppose it would be more interesting to have some drama around this (my favorite excuse from CEOs and politicians: “I’ve decided to spend more time with my family…”), but it’s just pretty mundane.  I’m going to be 15 hours ahead of most of the activity, so it’s just more practical for me to bow out.

It’s been a great experience and I sincerely hope to serve the organization again at some point in the future.

Oz Bound

As some of you might have heard, I will be headed to lovely Sydney Australia for an adventure.  I’ll be posting some of my experiences here, as well as my Twitter feed and my Tumblr feed (where appropriate).

I wasn’t going to post a picture of a kangaroo…I’m sure that would be as unrepresentative of Australia as cowboys on horseback would be of  Texas.

Try Out Kiva.org For Free

[UPDATE] – Looks like all the free trials are gone…darn.

As some of you know, I like to lend money through an organization called Kiva.org.  Kiva is a microloan company that acts as a way for folks with small amounts of free capital to allow entrepreneurs in developing countries to use said capital.  I’ve given small loans to various small business men and women all over the world.  I like it because it’s not a handout; it’s a loan.  The recipients of these loans use the money to build up their own small businesses and provide a living for themselves and their families.

Recently, Kiva launched a program to allow people to try the service for free!  Follow the link above to sign up and get a free $25 loan to see what the service is all about.  Now, you won’t get to take the money out for yourself once the loan is repaid, but it will hopefully give you a good experience where you can start using your own money.

What do I get out of the free trial?  Well, if 5 of you sign up and loan money using the link above, I get a nifty T-Shirt…and you all know how much I love T-Shirts.

Think about it…and give it a try.
